Futurice calls for eager programmers in 7 locations to battle for the mastery of Space Tyckiting! This year, regional hackathon winners from Tampere, Helsinki, Oulu, Turku, Berlin and Stockholm will meet each other the 27th and 28th of May in the final battle in Berlin organised and sponsored by us. Like all huge esports events, also Space Tyckiting finals will be broadcasted live on Twitch.tv.

What Sorcery is This?

Space Tyckiting1 is a hexagonal grid based 2D shooter game in which teams battle against each other by developing artificial intelligence for bots. Each team has multiple ships. The ships can either move, shoot or scan the battlefield to reveal enemy ships.

Choose your tactics! After registration, you will be given the chance to explore the game environment in advance and start building your bot AI already before the event. This way you can focus on testing and optimization on the day of the battle. There may also be some surprises at the event...

The main focus of the competition is to test your problem solving and logical reasoning skills, not in-depth technology proficiency. You don’t need to be a coder level wizard, but a little more than “Hello world!” skills are required. Participants form teams (1–3 members), which will fight against each other.

The game supports clients programmed in JavaScript, Clojure, F#, Haskell, Python, Ruby, Rust, Scala, Swift or any other language you can communicate JSON over TCP.
